More Peas Please!!!Some times its good to play with your food.
It has been a battle ever since my boys switched from baby food to table food for them to eat fruits and veggies. I couldn’t even get them to eat cheesy mashed potatoes. The only form of potato they would eat was fries or tator tots. I can get them to eat homemade fries if they do not see me cutting the potatoes up andI let them think they come from a bag in the freezer. The only fruit they would eat was applesauce, any color any flavor.Every time they would refuse to even taste it. I tried everything even made up stories about the foods and gave them super cool names, that didn’t trip their trigger…then one day it was yucky outside and I had a cold so we were in the middle of a SHREK marathon so we pretended to be Ogres and the pees were green swamp rats that big giant ogres were hungry for, but first we had to catch them with our spoon and mash them between our teeth and taste how sweet they were, like candy…mmm…mmm.. My four year old giggled, but refused to try the peas…my two year old on the other hand tried it, at first he wouldn’t swallow the peas, he mashed every one on his plate up and spit them out…( I know not the greatest table manners but at this point I was desperate and thinking get them eating first then work on the manners….) then he wanted to mash my peas, I told him my peas were extra special and he swallowed them, then said “MMM I LIKEY MOM I LIKE IT DELISCIOUS” that’s his signature way of letting me know something tastes really good, and he ate every pea on my plate. When we had peas again, Iput them on my sons plate. All he did was mash them. Offered him my peas, he ate every single one. So we shared peas for awhile, then one day I fixed his plate without peas, I had his peas on my plate and he said “Mom where’s my peas” So he ate them off his own plate this time then asked for 2nds and 3rd and even got mad when we ran out of peas. He now likes peas so much he doesn’t even have to mash them like an ogre. He even throws little fits for peas if I don’t make them often enough. Though I don’t like the tantrums at least they are for a veggie now and not candy. One day he helped himself to a bag of frozen peas from the freezer and wanted to have peas for snack. Finally after two years of trying my 2 year old eats a vegetable. My 4 year old eats corn. That’s it.
